Ted Strickland Conference call with Ohio bloggers

Cindy from the highly recommended, As Ohio Goes has a great summary of the conference call that myself and several other Ohio bloggers participated in today with Ted Strickland. Cindy also has links to some of the other bloggers that have written posts on the conference call. From my notes, it was stressed that Strickland and Sherrod Brown want Ohio to be a cutting edge state when it comes to renewable energy. It was stated one of the reasons we are in a war right now is that we are reliant on foreign oil.

On the topic of the response to some of the Republican ads thus far it was stated that they are using fear and hate to campaign against the Democrats. Ted Strickland stated he preferred the message of Hope and Optimism for a better future. On the topic of college education the cost is a factor attending a four year college in Ohio costs 45% more than the average in the nation and 52% more for two year colleges. Strickland would like to create a post secondary savings account for parents and would keep college tuitions costs down by using state funding as a leverage. Tuition predictability was felt as important so that students would have an idea as to what their costs would be. Ted Strickland stated that if elected when he is asked to swear to uphold the constitution, he will mean it when he swears allegiance to that oath to make Ohio constitutional in it's funding of public schools. Ohio must come up with a system that is more equitable and resources are more adequately shared.

He'd like to see Ohio be a blue state in 2008 restoring maturity and credibility back to the presidency. If he is elected governor he will remain governor in Ohio. (That was in response to Russell of BSB's question on Ted being a possible vice presidential candidate.)
