Will candidates boycott the Toledo Blade? Should they?

According to the news, the Toledo Blade has locked out a second union. In today's edition of the weekly Free Press, and all out boycott is being called for:

The Toledo Council of Newspaper Unions responded to a lockout The Blade issued Aug. 20 against one of its unions by declaring an “all-fronts” advertising and subscription boycott against the newspaper.

Larry Vellequette, council spokesman, said the boycott included all holdings by Block Communications Inc., The Blade's parent company, which also owns media outlets in Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Locally, BCI owns a cable company (Buckeye CableSystem) and WLIO, Lima's NBC affiliate.

This places candidates in a very difficult sitauation, do they cross picket lines or do they support the boycott and not advertise their campaigns on any Blade owned media outlet?

What about the debate that was just announced yesterday? Will Mike DeWine and Sherrod Brown cross picket lines?

If the Blade and the Unions don't resolve their differences soon, questions surrounding the call for a boycott will have to be answered...

Yes but even using them online does help support internet advertising...

I agree with The Blade on this issue. The unions have too much power, even though unions are useful. The Blade is correct in its current marketing that this approach is necessary to help Toledo move forward. Businesses and people will not move here unless they can make money. Good for The Blade.

As for political candidates, I don't think they'll make a stand on this issue. They want the support of both the unions and The Blade. I think we'll here nothing but silence. 14 people locked out is nothing, these unions will have to do better.

The most effective way to boycott the Blah is to quit reading the nespaper, cancelling your cable, and not loggin on to toledoblade.com. Get your news through alternative sources (i.e. local radio or the weekly newspapers).
As far as the politicians are concerns, I agree with everyone else, they're staying out. They don't want to piss off JRB, and we all know what JRB does to polticians who have a falling out with him (e.g. Ray Kest). They don't want to piss off the unions because the unions also bury politicians who disagree with them (e.g. Harry Barlos).
