McNamara Blasts City Spending on Decorative Lighting in Face of Potential Budget Deficit
Following the revelation by City of Toledo Finance Director John Sherburne that the city is facing a potential budget deficit of $800,000 in 2006, Democrat Joe McNamara will hold a press conference today, Thursday, October 19 at 1 PM at One Government to call on City Council to reverse its decision to spend $90,000 on decorative lighting for the Anthony Wayne Bridge.
“Capital improvements to our bridges are the responsibility of the Ohio Department of Transportation,” notes McNamara. “Why are we spending city tax dollars on something so unnecessary at a time when good jobs are scarce and citizens are fearful for the safety of their neighborhoods?”
“City Council is acting as a rubber stamp for the mayor and his reckless spending,” says McNamara. “For Lourdes Santiago to grandstand on a $6000 sign expenditure and then vote for $90,000 for decorative lighting is the height of hypocrisy. Team Finkbeiner is out of control and out of touch with the needs of Toledoans.”

Correct, I believe, if the bridge is part of a State route, and then, only for the street lighting, not the fancy lights.
